TIME TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP FOR 2010 CALENDAR YEAR
D' U Know?
Ordering ballot quantities - Nobody wants to fall short of ballots on election day,
but Clerks also do not want to waste tax payer dollars for printing excessive
quantities of ballots either. So what is the formula?
According to MCL 168.563, The number of ballots to be printed for the use
of the electors at any primary election in any election precinct shall be not
less than 25% more than the total number of ballots cast therein at the
corresponding primary election held 4 years previously."
There are other physical characteristics of the printed ballot also contained within this section of Election law.
Voter history is subject to FOIA. The legislature was clear about that. The following is NOT subject to FOIA:
(a) The record that a person declined to register to vote.
(b) The office that received a registered voter's application.
(c) A registered voter's driver's license or state personal identification card number.
(d) The month and day of birth of a registered voter.
(e) The telephone number provided by the registered voter.
(f) The digitized signature of an elector that is captured or
reproduced and transmitted to the qualified voter file by
the secretary of state or a county, city, or township clerk
under section 509hh or by the secretary of state under section 307 of the Michigan vehicle code
, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.307.

FIVE YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN
The MAMC Board of Directors has adopted the Five Year Strategic Plan This plan is based on a
goal-setting session that was held in August, 2009. The board met in an all-day session and, through
the facilitation of Lew Bender, developed a five-year plan which puts the board and the MAMC on a clear
path for the near future. The following major goals were the result of these efforts:
1. Membership and Connection to MAMC
2. Create and Implement MAMC Certification
3. Create and Implement MAMC support staff
4. Expand User Friendly Technology
Certain board members were assigned as "champions" of each of these goals. As you will see from the plan,
there are ambitious objectives under each goal, some of which are already being addressed.
You may have noticed a brand new look with the membership renewal form you recently received. We are
planning on sending follow-up pieces which will grab your attention and, hopefully, attract more new members.
These pieces will be sent to all member and non-member clerks and deputy clerks.
Within the first year, the board intends to survey the membership to determine the needs of the individuals
who comprise our association. The survey will include questions regarding state certification.
The board members who are championing goal three are moving ahead with the appointment of an administrative
coordinator. This will be an individual or a firm who will work directly with the board members to assist in clerical
duties and help with event planning.
Members of the board of directors are researching software solutions for membership which will enable credit
card payments on-line for membership renewals and event registrations. It is anticipated that this solution will
keep historical information on each member, including length of membership, attendance at events, education credits,
and certifications. It is hoped that this software will be in place during 2010.
We will keep our membership up to date periodically to report our progress on these goals and this strategic plan.
As always, feel free to contact us if you have any suggestions or wish to assist us in these endeavors.
