The City of Fraser's library board is in the transition from being appointed by the council to being voted in by electors on the November ballot. This will be the first time that the City has ever placed library officials on the ballot. We are looking for articles that were included in candidate packets, but any information regarding this topic is useful, as well as information regarding establishing a NEW library millage.

Hi Chelsea - I'm both our township clerk for the past four years, and Chair of our County Library Board since 2010.

I'd encourage you to reach out to an attorney that specializes in library law. We use Anne Suernyck from Foster & Swift: ASeurynck@fosterswift.com.

Anne has helped us in many, many library issues, saving us from troubles downstream.

There are a few others in the state who specialize in library law...if you're going for a library millage and changing the governance structure of the library, it could be very helpful to talk to an attorney who "lives in this space".

    Very best,
Greg Rathje, Pentland Township Clerk, Luce County (in the great UP!)

Thanks Greg, our librarian has an attorney that she discuses with, but unfortunately the attorney is not quick to respond. We would like to get the ball rolling, to be able to give our citizens information regarding petitions and such, so they can run if they would like.

But, thank you for the useful information.
