For those of you who have received a request for records from the Public Interest Legal Foundation...
Has anyone attempted to charge PILF for the time it took to gather the information they requested?
PILF cites federal law, which states:
52 USC 20507: Requirements with respect to administration of voter registration
(i) Public disclosure of voter registration activities
(1) Each State shall maintain for at least 2 years and shall make available for public inspection and, where available, photocopying at a reasonable cost...
In essence, they argue that we cannot charge for the time it takes to gather information, in accordance with our FOIA, but rather, we can only charge for photocopying.
Just curious how others have handled this request.
