Invoicing for Fire Dept. Runs

Recently a City Councilmember noted at a meeting that most insurance companies will reimburse property owners for the cost of fire runs upon the event of an actual fire. Do other municipalities bill for these costs? We currently do not, and have no policy or ordinance in place to do so.

Any information or assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Amy,

We bill the insurance companies of the parties invloved. And yes, we have an ordinance called "cost recovery"

We have an ordinance and we bill the homeowner according to the type of fire. Harrisville is a very small community and this seems to work very well. I can FAX a copy if you'd like.

Amy,

The City of Corunna has an ordinance and we bill the homeowner or automobile owner. They are charged $500 per fire run. Commercial property is charged up to a maximum of $1,000 and industrial property is billed up to a maximum of $2,000. I will send you the ordinance if you would like.

Linda
