MAMC - Defining Clerks: Professional Public Managers

Important Announcement: MAMC Institutes postponed until August

To:  Presenters, Participants and interested Members of the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks (MAMC)

From:  Lewis Bender, Director of the Michigan Clerks Institute
Jeremy Howard, President MAMC
Melanie Ryska, Director, Chair Education
JoAnne Kean, Director, Co-Chair, Education

Subject:  Re-schedule of the Clerks Institute March 15-20 and March 22-27, 2020

On March 10, 2020, Governor Witmer declared a health emergency for the State of Michigan with a recommendation to cancel or postpone large gatherings, conferences, and sporting events with over 100 people.  Based on that recommendation, we have rescheduled the two Clerk Institutes scheduled for March 15 – 20, 2020, and March 22 – 27, 2020, to August 16-21, 2020.  The plan is to combine all the participants from March into a one-week offering August 16-21, 2020.  We recognize that there is no perfect time to reschedule the two institutes.  However, based on avoiding May, August, and November elections, the June Clerk’s Conference, and the availability of the Comfort Inn, the August 16-21 dates were the least problematic.

What does this mean for you if you are planning to attend the August Institute?

If you plan to attend the August Institute, your hotel reservations at the Comfort Inn and or the Fairfield Inn will be booked for arrival on August 16 and departure on August 21.  You do not need to contact the hotel. (Please note – if you have already canceled your room - you need to recontact the Comfort Inn at 989-772-4000.)

If you plan to attend in August, your Institute registration will also be transferred to the August date.  You need not contact Mary Bender.

What does this mean if you are not planning to attend the August Institute?

You need to cancel your Institute registration.

Cancellation requests must be made in writing and emailed to info@ or faxed to MAMC at 517-371-1170.  Cancellation requests received after 14 days before the conference date or no shows will be charged the full registration fee and are not entitled to any refund.

You will receive a full refund of your Institute registration fee.

You will be responsible for contacting the Comfort Inn (989-772-4000) or the Fairfield Inn (989-775-5000) to cancel hotel reservations.

We wish each of you the very best, and we look forward to seeing you in August.
