FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 3, 2019

THE MICHIGAN ASSOCIATION OF MUNICIPAL CLERKS IMPOSES SANCTIONS ON SHERIKIA HAWKINS, SOUTHFIELD CITY CLERK

Michigan – On September 23, 2019, Sherikia Hawkins, Southfield City Clerk, was charged with six felonies, under Michigan Election Law, stemming from the November 6, 2018 General Election. Additionally, the Secretary of State has taken supervisory control over Sherikia Hawkins’ duties as a local election official with respect to the supervision and administration of election laws and the upcoming election for the City of Southfield.

In light of these events and in accordance with Standing Rule 47 Code of Ethics and Conduct, which allows the Board to impose sanctions of censure and loss of privilege the MAMC Board of Directors approved a motion to suspend all membership rights of Southfield City Clerk, Sherikia Hawkins due to violation(s) of the MAMC Code of Ethics and Conduct policy.

The Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks’ Code of Ethics and Conduct ensures a uniform adherence to the Association’s long-standing policies related to legal, ethical, and professional standards of conduct as it directly relates to our professional role as a public official and an active member of this Association.

The MAMC Board firmly believes that election security is of the utmost importance and takes these charges very seriously. We take great pride and comfort in knowing that our election canvass process works to ensure that every valid vote is counted.

Jeremy Howard, CMC/CMMC
